Located on the eastern bank of the Brazos River, Caballo Rojo Ranch is home to Victoria and Carl Lambert and their breeding operations. The couple not only raises top-quality reining horses but also breeds American Brahman cattle.
About six years ago, when Lambert and her husband switched from cutting to Reining, she decided to concentrate on mares.
“Our focus is on showing mares and then breeding them since we really feel like the mare is very important to the entire industry,” she explained. “We’ve sold some very good mares that have gone on and done well, such as Wind Her Up Chic.”
One of their mares, Memorable Affair, has had a stellar year so far. She was recently named the leading open mare at the 2007 National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC), and last year she finished in the top at the NRHA Derby and the NRBC.
The Lamberts are looking forward to watching NRHA Professional Brent Wright show her the rest of this year. When not riding, Lambert oversees her company, Caballo Rojo Publishing, which specializes in agriculture and livestock marketing; and she also owns and publishes The Brahman Journal. Her husband Carl is a senior vice president at UBS. The two of them enjoy competing.
Carl made the NRBC limited non pro and Prime Time non pro finals this year. And just this past July, Victoria, under the guidance of NRHA Professional Jared Leclair, won the Heart of Texas One Hot Reining Derby’s non pro and
intermediate non pro divisions on Kickit In The Bud — the only gelding on her entire ranch.
“I stepped out of the box when I bought him,” she said. “But he is such a nice horse I couldn’t resist. He’s living it
up here with all the mares!”
